This is taken from an Reno Gazette Journal article a few months back:

Attorney Jeff Dickerson said all the cases he files have merit because it would be folly to spend time and money on a frivolous suit. He said one civil rights lawsuit against UNR is too many.

He rejects about 85 percent of prospective UNR plaintiffs who ask him to sue the university on their behalf.

"On the average, 10 to 20 people from UNR a month call for my services, ranging from administrators to full professors to janitors," Dickerson said.

The NCAA has accused Texas A&M-Corpus Christi of nine rules violations, including use of ineligible players, recruiting violations in men's basketball and lack of institutional control. The alleged violations, eight of them major, occurred mainly between 2004 and 2008 in men's basketball, women's volleyball and men's tennis.

The NCAA's notice of allegations also accuses athletic director Brian Teter of not reporting to the NCAA his knowledge of two ineligible players and later submitting a false self-report regarding one of those players. Teter failed to conduct himself in accordance with the association's "high standards of honesty and sportsmanship," the notice said.

The NCAA charged the athletic department with a lack of institutional control, saying the school failed to monitor the eligibility of student-athletes, properly train staff in NCAA rules, police itself for rules violations and accurately report any violations.

A consulting firm hired to look at problems within the police department released a report last month that said the department “is nearly crippled due to internal dysfunction.”

Chief Adam Garcia has 11, yes 11, lawsuits pending against him. Another was filed today that is quite revealing. The public should know who else has been caught in the UNRPD pornography web...

Here is a perfectly worded letter that describes the reality of filing a lawsuit against a state university. Bless you Catherine Parsons Smith for taking the time to educate others.

Letter in the Reno Gazette Journal...

It is ignorant and naive to think that someone would sacrifice their life savings, their emotional well-being, and their career to file a 'frivolous' lawsuit against the state. Lawsuits are grueling for the plaintiff and the defendant. I have witnessed the stress and angst on many of the defendants and witnesses in my case. The lawsuits against UNR are incredibly strong on their merits. The plaintiffs are all fighting to get to a jury trial at the earliest possible opportunity. However, the University is pulling out all stops to delay such trials. Why is that? What are they afraid of? I know the answer...and it is only a matter of time until you do too. Keep the faith in truth and integrity. It will win out.

The situation is total BS. I really hope the AD losses her job, and more importantly you get your position back. Some of these AD administrators think they are invincible. Those who cut corners and cheat will always get burnt long term. I hope this is the case at UNR, it sounds like a bunch of incompetent people running a Mickey mouse show!

Please stay strong and keep fighting for what is right. No one can ever take away what you did as a coach at UNR. I was going to email the AD and ask her how a team wins 6 games the year after winning a WAC championship. She cheated the girls, I'm sure if you stayed you would have doubled that win total.

What she did was kill the opportunity of the girls to be successful, I'm sure it will be the same next season.

Terri Patraw: Northern Illinois guilty of Major NCAA Violations

Northern Illinois University was placed on one year of probation for major violations of NCAA rules that occurred in 2003 and 2004. The athletic director at the time of the major infractions was Cary Groth, current athletic director at the University of Nevada (Reno).

FINDINGS OF VIOLATIONS OF NCAA LEGISLATION.

1. EXTRA BENEFITS. [NCAA Bylaws 16.11.2.1, 16.11.2.2.2 and 16.11.2.3-(d)]

2. FAILURE TO MONITOR. [NCAA Constitution 2.8.1]

The Committee on Infractions found that this case involved major violations of NCAA legislation.

The university was placed on one year of probation from August 2, 2006, to August 2, 2007

Trivia question: How many athletic directors have been responsible for two separate institutions landing on probation for major violations of NCAA rules under their leadership?

...You demonstrated a don't quit attitude and it showed. You inherited a beat up program, but everyone knew at the time you were a winner and you proved that to everyone from 2004 - on. Over the years I wasn't surprised at your success, but intrigued by how quickly you turned that program around.

I was privy to the "good old" boy network in the athletic department and was completely aware that some of the hiring's and firings at the University were politically driven. In only 12 months of working at UNR I knew I wasn't the right fit or I couldn't work for a school that was unethical.

I want you to know that I stand completely behind you and will always support you. Good luck and I hope you crush UNR. That place needs a major clean up!!!

I just wanted you to know that sometimes you have friends that you don't know you have. All the best and I will keep my eyes open and won't be surprised when you get the respect you deserve in swift victory.

Nevada Personnel Director Todd Rich says he’s investigating allegations of unprofessional conduct raised against state hearing officer Bill Kockenmeister. At the Personnel Commission’s quarterly meeting, former UNR soccer coach Terri Patraw accused Kockenmeister of unethical and unprofessional conduct, saying he allowed perjury during her hearing and used false testimony in his decision.

In another case, UNR police officer Lane Grow complained to the commission that the hearing officer violated the Open Meeting Law when he illegally closed part of a hearing after which Kockenmeister reinstated Kevin Youngflesh to the UNR police agency. A final determination on Kockenmeister's future with the Commission will be determined at the June 20th meeting.

News media in Reno are threatened by the University administration to censor bad publicity. University leadership has made calls and visits to the local media in an effort to censor their coverage. On multiple occasions the Athletic Director made phone calls to the Reno Gazette Journal to squash any negative publicity regarding her conduct. I received this message from a UNR employee...

It grieves me greatly that newspapers in the Truckee Meadows are letting Glick get away with murder. I hope that you are reinstated and that justice is done.

Corruption destroys the very core of the university. The effects can be seen in things large and small. Corrupt promotion policies mean that the best minds are not rewarded, and that many will not even wish to be part of the academic community.

There are a number of reasons that people lie. The first is fear. This is the most common reason that people may lie, and they are taking shelter from a perceived punishment. But if they are always in fear of being punished, it may become a habit, which is a second reason for lying. In this case, it may become compulsive lying, which is lying by reflex. Even when confronted by the truth, they insist the lie is the truth.
