Terri Patraw: Northern Illinois guilty of Major NCAA Violations

Northern Illinois University was placed on one year of probation for major violations of NCAA rules that occurred in 2003 and 2004.  The athletic director at the time of the major infractions was Cary Groth, current athletic director at the University of Nevada (Reno).

FINDINGS OF VIOLATIONS OF NCAA LEGISLATION.

1.   EXTRA BENEFITS.  [NCAA Bylaws 16.11.2.1, 16.11.2.2.2 and 16.11.2.3-(d)]

2.  FAILURE TO MONITOR.  [NCAA Constitution 2.8.1]


The Committee on Infractions found that this case involved major violations of NCAA legislation.

The university was placed on one year of probation from August 2, 2006, to August 2, 2007

Trivia question:  How many athletic directors have been responsible for two separate institutions landing on probation for major violations of NCAA rules under their leadership?
